This is a teaching video yet entertaining. I now know more about fishing for walleye than I ever did. Mike is someone you automatically feel comfortable with and would like to be along fishing with him. I would recommend it to anyone looking for advice on walleye fishing.

Great video! If you are a Walleye fisherman and you want to try Planer Boards and other trolling techniques, I really think you'll like this DVD. Trolling crank baits, worm harnesses, and bottom bouncers with Planer boards are what this DVD is all about. It's not the when and where, but how to set-up and use different trolling techniques.

This must have taken all of 2 hours to produce...a few "tips" on crankbaits and gadgets...nada on where, when, temp, or bottom rigs....save your money for beer and bait.....or try a different DVD...

The Complete Book of Fly Fishing The Complete Book of Fly Fishing

Reviews

Has a very broad content for beginners. But one off the thinks that makes this fly art incredible is the surrounding, and in B&W you may get a little depress when you are reading it!

just a quick word about this wonderful book: within two months of reading it, and having never fly-fished a day in my life, i took 23 creel-size trout in two days from Helton Creek, North Carolina. this book guided me throug the purchase of all my equipment, and instructed me on all the techniques in using it. in the nine months since i first read this book i have caught all three species of trout, countless pan fish, crappies, small- and large-mouth bass, and one baracudda. i highly recomend it to anyone interested in fly-fishing.

I'm reading this book right now and I love it! I used to read his articles years ago in Field and Stream and Outdoor Life and Sports Afield and I'd forgotten what a fine writer he was. I like the way he tells good stories while he's taking fishing and even though I can't yet get to some of the places he's writing about, he sure makes me want to be there. This is the sort of book that a book lover will enjoy and a book lover who is also a fly fisher will especially enjoy every bit of it! My husband, Tom, who is a writer himself, also has read it and is every bit as keen on it as I.

This book is listed as 368 pages. Thankfully there were only 349. I thought I was reading a novel. Each chapter began with a verbose, and usually self backpatting, 4-5 page introduction of the authors personal conquest while fly fishing. It took me so long to read, that I was out of time to return it. I sincerely believe the "meat" of this book could have been communicated in less than 200 pages, and probably less than 100 if color photos(other than the 10 pages in the center of the book that were of no benefit) were used. Actually, few photos of the "how to" were shown, the sketches carried most of the weight. Most of the black-and-white photos were of an already caught fish that bolstered the authors standing with his audience. L.L.Beans books are done and offer more info. Let's cut to the chase so that we can get back on the water. I would not recommend to beginner of advanced fishermen. I think that any book that includes fly tying or pictures of fishing flies commands color photos. How many fishing lures have you ever bought from a black-and-white catalog?

I am very disapointed with this book. McNally wastes a lot of time pumping himself up by telling us about how he won some distance casting contests back in his prime, how fly line used to be labeled when he first got into fly fishing, and other useless info. His section on fly casting is pitiful and provides no real information to a beginner. The funniest part is his fly casting problems and remedies - I've seen better information on an index card. His section on fly tying is also useless. The final offense is that in several pictures of trout, McNally describes how the trout was handled gently and released carefully. Then in the saltwater fishing section, he catches a small dolphin and shows a picture of himself gaffing the dolphin with a caption that reads "Dolphins are good eating!".McNally might be a great fly fisher but his book as awful. I would recommend the LLBean book over this one for beginners anyday.

There's an old saying among fly fishers that equipment isn't the only thing, it's everything. But the best equipment in the world will catch few fish if you don't know how to use it. Striped Bass Fishing: Salt Water Strategies (Salt Water Sportsman) Striped Bass Fishing: Salt Water Strategies (Salt Water Sportsman)

Reviews

OK, I am a bassoholic, I admit it. I have just about every book on striped bass and have fished it almost exclusively for near 38 years from shore and boat from Nantucket to Virginia (but 90% in NE). This book was a little bit of a let down for me. I get SWS and figured this would be the modern day defacto-standard complete works on how-to. But is is just an introduction IMO. There could be a lot more details. It is worth it if you are not familiar fishing for stripers and want a quick lesson, and there are some decent sections and good basic info but there are other books that are far more interesting and have more detailed info. I bought it, read it and it sits on the shelf...haven't opened it since.

A good book to have around...some good tips and different takes on bass fishing technique that I found both entertaining and usefull...good stuff on wire line...rips...enjoyed!

I am new to surfcasting and found the book to be a good overall source of information about fishing for Stripah. It's a good source for someone breaking into the sport. The book has some great illustrations and covers everything from migration to location to baits and rigs to conservation.A nice book to pass to my son in a few years.

Not quite as pretty as a some fly fishing coffee table books, but beautiful pictures and finally a fishing book with recepies.Format is a little choppy with the multi-author approach, with some redundancies.

The Sporting Road: Travels Across America in an Airstream Trailer--with Fly Rod, Shotgun, and a Yellow Lab Named Sweetzer The Sporting Road: Travels Across America in an Airstream Trailer--with Fly Rod, Shotgun, and a Yellow Lab Named Sweetzer

Reviews

The adventures of Jime Fergus and his lab Sweetzer as chronicled in this book make me wish I had chosen a much less restricted life style over my 60+ years up to now. The writing creates strong images in my mind's eye that bring the events to life for me. I enjoyed the book immensely and recommend it highly.

If you've ever thought about a fisherman's life on the banks of a trout stream or knee-deep in the Bahamian surf, or just contemplated why the seasons change colors, you might want to hitch a ride with Jim Fergus. The self-described "hook-and-bullet hack" -- in fact, one of the most thoughtful hunting and fishing writers in America, a field editor for Sports Afield magazine -- travels "The Sporting Road" like Kerouac with a fly rod and a 12-gauge, where every stream is a stream of consciousness. As you cruise the blue highways from Washington to Florida, Fergus muses about hunters' patient wives, sharptail grouse, bamboo fly-rods, the coming of snow, bonefishing, Native American culture, lives worth living, the perils facing small towns, good dogs and good friends. There's a certain poetry that emanates from somewhere deep down, an echo of a primitive time, brought up-to-date by Airstream trailers, Coleman grills and, for better or worse, Eddie Bauer. This is a good book for non-hunters and non-anglers, the most militant of whom assume avid sportsmen have little conscience or intellect. Fergus proves otherwise. He is an eloquent spokesman for the sporting life, not defensive and clearly thoughtful. If you've ever wanted to understand the allure of frigid mornings in high-plains cornfields, or soggy nights on the banks of an unknown river, or why a hunter would drive for two days for a fleeting glimpse of a bird too small for dinner on its own, read "The Sporting Road."

Unfortunatly, for me, I was well past middle age (55) before I ever ventured into the woods with a shotgun looking for some game. I was very excited about my first hunt and after three days of not seeing any game, I realized that during that time, I had changed ... from a novice hunter to a man in love with the outdoors.I may not have seen any game but I saw the trees (seemed like the first time) ... and the grass, the river, the lake, the fields, the sun and shadows, the clouds drifting overhead. I listened to the wind, the sounds the trees make when they rub together, the rustling of the grass. In spite of the fact that I carried a weapon and moved thru the woods in a preditory mode (or maybe because of it) I experienced a sense of peace and wonder that I hadn't known since I was a child ... and I loved every moment of it.I felt safe, at one with my surroundings ... I felt like I belonged there.Reading this book brought me back to that place ... and it made me long to get back in the woods as soon as I can. This book spoke to my heart.Thank you Mr. Fergus.

Jim Fergus is one of the few outdoor writers who has succeeded in "crossing the line" that very few of this literary ilk have ever accomplished -- Hemingway, as example, for one. He is no "hook and bullet writer." He is an American writer and, with his best-selling ONE THOUSAND WHITE WOMEN, an American novelist. Jim's talent lies in his ability to place himself, the storyteller, at a distance in order to come up close and personal with the people, places and inspirations that surround him. In this book, as in HUNTER'S ROAD, what he encounters while on the road, hunting birds, with his companion Lab, Sweetzer is his own, personal, high adventure. In recounting these things, Jim does so with the perception of a child -- full of excitement and wonderment -- yet crafted with care by the masterful wordsmith that he has proven to be. It is a potent combination -- and what makes all of Jim's works so unique and compelling. A MUST READ.

I finished reading "The Sporting Road," by Jim Fergus, last night. I really enjoyed the book. He is a very good writer, however, I am not "old hat" at most of the wing shooting and other sporting pursuits so I would have enjoyed it more if he had told his story with some more sporting "nuggets" (tips). Jim has a few "nuggets" when he goes to Shooting School and when he and friend Fly Fish in a stream next to a resort town's favorite jogging path. I would have liked for him to go more deeply into hunting methods and skills. Fergus is a humble hunter, almost to fault, he dose not brag much. I would have liked him to brag on his dog a bit more. He seems to have a great hunting partner in Sweets, At one point she makes a retrieve of a bird that he did not think was dead. More of the book is spent on the life of a hunter, on the road, than on the hunt. But I guess those are the things that stick out in his memory. "The Sporting Road" romanticizes the life of hunters who are rarely understood in today's pop culture. If any one has ever understood that the journey is more important than the destination, it would be Jim Fergus.

More than just a "man and his dog" hunting adventure, The Sporting Road is a book about the land and man's place in it. It is also, in many ways, a book about relationships; with nature, animals, and the people with who live around us...

Wii Fishing Rod with Reel Wii Fishing Rod with Reel

Reviews

Had issues with the first rod that was sent out, broke in 24 hours. The replacement that was sent at no charge was and is great the first must have been defective. Great game and fishing rod my husband loves it.

I got this rod to go with the fishing game I just bought for the wii. I was so worried because of the other reviews posted that it was going to break in 10 minutes of use. They were wrong. This rod is made of sturdy plastic and the reel on the side is attached very well to the rod. There is no way it can break unless you aren't efficient at using plastic. Most of the reviews said that a child was using it. I am 20 and my family are all over the age of 18. It is incredibly easy to use. The only complaint I would have about the product is it is left handed and not right handed. Though it is still very easy to use with your left. To be able to break this product you would have to be reeling incorrectly which I found very easy to do if you tried to reel too fast. Which is too fast for even the game to catch. This is done by moving the reel back and forth instead of moving the reel naturally around in a circle. If the rod broke then they really had to be doing something wrong because you wouldn't even touch that part in the game. I ope this review is helpful because I believe this rod was highly underestimated.

I find the fishing pole more of a pain than its worth. I think just using the Wii remote is better.

It seemed cheaply made and when trying to reel fish in very jerky motion. Couldn't use.

You dont have to have this item to play the FIshing games on the Wii but it makes it more realistic with casting and reeling in the "big catch".

If you are a fan of fishing and an avid Wii gamer, you will love the Fishing Rod with Reel. Comprised of an extendable rod and a chrome rotating reel, you can reel in your catch with accuracy. The Fishing Rod with Reel is designed to fit your remote controller in the fishing pole and the nunchuk controller in the rotating reel; it gives you an authentic feel as if you are holding a real fishing rod...

My 7-yrs old son loves this game almost as much as he loves the real fishing on the lake! He got it among other birthday presents and it was an instant favorite. Contrary to other posts he doesn't seem to experience any difficulties in using the fishing rod appliance. The nunchuck wire doesn't get entangled either. I guess it depends on how fiercely you reel the fish in :) The game is very well made, it has nice graphics, no violence and just sheer fun to play. We've been Wii fans from the beginning of this console and I admit that this game stands out from the crowd.

I bought this a gift for my hubby for Valentine's Day. I went through several reviews of other fishing games and Wii-mote fishing rods. This game had the best reviews. He has played it everyday non-stop since he received it. He loves it. My 13 year old step-son is getting into it as well. There are challenges that help keep the game fun. And the multi-player modes are fun too! My husband says that it is better than the real thing because he actually catches fish on the game.

Kids played it at their cousins, wanted it for Christmas. Got it and love playing it and are learning alot about fishing along the way.

Purchased this for my husband for xmas. Great fun family game. WE loved it and really funny too...

We got this on sale on Amazon and it was the best price we found. It's a fun game. My son and husband love it!

very good graphics, easy to learn to use. Bought for the grand kids 2 and 4, a bit too advanced for them.

It is hard to get used to, but soon as you get the swing it is really fun!

This Bass Pro fishing game for WII is a blast! It took a little bit to figure out the fishing rod but it is actually easier to play the game without it. The rod is a little heavy for young people and for those of us with carpal tunnel it just is too bulky. But you can play without it and it is lots of fun. Offers a lot of different lakes to fish and fish to catch. You win prizes and ultimately qualify for the Bass Pro Invitational tournament. I would highly recommend this game.

I fell over laughing when my sweetie gave me this as one of my Christmas gifts. How cool! All summer, I'm biking to the nearby park lake with my reel to try my luck, so I was very psyched when I saw this (I'd never even heard of it.) Now, you can use your Wiimote and nunchuck to play this but - meh. Here's the deal if you use the reel: You -must- actually read and follow the directions for assembly and gameplay; you will never figure it out on your own. And you -must- go into the first *in-game* menu (not the Wii game menu), go to options and choose configuration B (and note where the controls are.) You should also Google up and watch the 1-minute "Casting 101" video Bass Pro made. And *poof* the doors swing wide open to a new world of gaming fun. Driving the boat is a blast, the graphics on land and underwater are beautiful and the fish finder helps you go where the fish actually are. You will be pulling up big ones in no time and boy do they fight! It's a really fun game.

The game itself is average. The pole is absolutley worhless. The handle for the reel is used to steer the boat not reel in the fish! In my opinion it was totally false advertizing of this product. Considering the price for the game and the pole and comparing it to other games that dont use the pole its a comlete rip off.

Literally puts the fishing rod in the players hands as they he ad out to their favorite hot spots including several popular la kes in north america. By combining high quality advanced gamepl ay with an innovative motion-sensing fishing pole controller is quite the catch for games and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
