Chronicle Books - The Complete Fly-Tying KitReviewsThe book has nice pictures and reasonably clear text and instructions. However the gear is total garbage. The vise wobbles and doesn't hold hooks particularly well. The bobbin actually has a sharp burrs on the inner edge rather than a proper smooth surface. It also is made of a rolled tube rather than extruded pipe so it catches and breaks he thread. JUNK! The hackle pliers stick and tear feathers. I returned it immediately. DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Buy your equipment from a proper fishing store or web site. Average Rating:![]() |

The New Fly Fishing BasicsReviewsA basic introduction to fly fishing. But to really get started you'll need to take a lesson or two from an experienced angler and then practice, practice, practice....preferably on the water. Going back and reviewing the tape after experiencing some on-the-water frustrations can be helpful. Featuring widescreen digital composition and high definition Dolby stereo sound, The New Fly Fishing Basics is a DVD guide to essential fishing techniques, knots, equipment, and fly tying. From a wide variety of different casts (including but not limited to reach cast, slack line cast, jump roll cast, and wind casts), to a grounding in the simple entomology that fly fishers need to know, The New Fly Fishing Basics is especially ideal for relative newcomers to the sport, though veteran fishers will also appreciate the video demonstrations of a wide assortment of techniques. The perfect preparation before embarking upon a fly-fishing voyage with family or friends. 90 minutes, color. This was a great basic information based learning system. I have no experience in fly fishing and feel that after watching this DVD I now have a basic enough knowledge to purdhuse and start fly fishing. There are basic techniques to advanced techniques. There is a basic blurb on how to tie basic flys, wooly buggers and dry flys. Teh only drawback is there was little on what to look for when you approach a lake or river, there was references to other DVDs by Bill Mart. with all of the dvd/vhs videos out there on the market, I found this one to be a great starter video for someone just getting into fly fishing or one that wants to improve their sport. while some may say that the video spends too much time on casting and tying ... well, that's the art of fishing!! If you can't cast you're not going to have too much luck in catching! If you can't tie the necessary knots, well, then you're just going to get a lot of practice in what it feels like to lose a fish (that is, if you even were able to cast the line out!!!!) All kidding aside, this is a great video and I've watched it many times over and have corrected many of the common mistakes that I have found in my casting or other techniques. Enjoy! THE DVD IS EXCELLENT, WELL ORGANIZED, IN HD AND PERFECT FOR THE BEGINNER. I DO NOT KNOW HOW YOU COULD PRODUCE A BETTER INTRODUCTION TO FLY FISHING. Average Rating:![]() |

Fly Fishing Colorado's Major 6ReviewsAre you serious? This is the worst movie ever. If you have ever fished in your life this movie is painful for even 5 minutes. I am pretty sure he is one of the most incapable fisherman I have ever seen. How do you do a section on Tomahawk for the South Platte and not cover the Dream Stream? How do you NOT do a segment on the Blue? While Marty's book is a good read, and a worthwhile investment for those not familiar with the area, his video is just pathetic. Please do not purchase this video and encourage him to make more of this worthless crap, this movie is just terrible. You my friend, are an inferior angler. Marty has a local's insight to Colorado and the best rivers/creeks and he takes his knowledge from the Fly Fisher's Guide to Colorado and brings it to video. I have been fishing CO for years and found a ton of information on techniques and locations to make my next trip even more exciting. I can't wait to try some of the suggestions from Gus and the other guides. Can't beat the deal on this DVD for the money! Average Rating:![]() |

Fly Fishing the Madison River Montana - A Blue Ribbon Experience!ReviewsIf anyone associated with this production has any morals at all they will refund all copies sold. For $29.95, which is really high for a 45 min dvd, there is about 8 minutes of actual previews and good fishing advice for people wanting to fish the Madison. 90% of this video is how fisherman should be polite, always practice catch/release, and we are so blessed we have wild trout in Montana. The worst part is the whole video they preach from their high post about the above topics, then in the last segment the guy tells shows a video clip of him catching a 10 lb brown. He then says I've been practicing taxidermy for 20 years and decided to mount it? What a joke, what about the catch and release advice? I wouldn't watch this video again if they paid me $29.95. Please do not buy this video!!! Average Rating:![]() |
